Dry stone walls

Short dry stone walls (Macere) are a feature of the landscape. They were built by the peasants since the Middle Ages with stones extracted from the soil while tilling, enclosing terraces and making cultivation possible on the slopes. Today they still have an important role for the hydrogeological stability of the territory. More images
