Flora
The area is covered in abundant vegetation which, especially in May, shows a beautiful, very deep shade of green.
The peculiar biodiversity is most evident in the fall, when the woods assume a myriad of colours: the red of mountain maples and cherry trees, the yellow of field maples, the purple of wild pears.
In the summer lawns and woods are crossed by butterflies and spotted by delicate flowers: primroses, soldanellas, violets, narcissuses. More images
Fauna
The fauna is that of the forestal habitat of the Mainarde mountains, and more generally of the National Park.
Among the big mammals, the indefatigable boar roams in large herds. The roedeer, shy and graceful, moves tentatively in the underbrush.
Deer, in constant expansion in the territory of the Mainarde, graze in the quietest glades. The wild cat hides in the remotest ravines.
Among the great predators, the wolf is the lord of the woods around Filignano; in the winter night its howl can be heard.
There are innumerable birds: finch, green woodpecker, hawk, long-tailed tit, thawny owl, black kite, owl. More images
A hidden corner to discover
The “Sbuzzaturo” is what remains of an ancient flooded wood, crossed, according to the legend, by a bridge made of oak.
In this regard, the names of nearby boroughs is telling: Selvone (big wood), Pantano (puddle).
In the fall it is often filled by rainwater, creating a nice small lake. In the spring the water drains into a glittering stream that cheers up the evenings of some peaceful sheep. More images
